Our student entrepreneurs scooped a record seven titles at the Kerry Student Enterprise Awards County Final in IT Tralee on Friday 22nd March. Three groups went forward from our school to the final, two entered the Junior Category and one entered the Intermediate Category. ‘Eary Fix’ with their custom-made ear piece for tradesmen/women and ’75 Degrees of Safety’ with their pair of box iron ladder shoes moulded at 75 degrees, entered the Junior Category. ‘Crios Mhadra’ with their three-point car safety harness for dogs, entered the Intermediate Category. On the day our girls won the following titles:

  • 1st Prize – Junior Category – ‘Eary Fix’
  • 2nd Prize – Junior Category – ’75 Degrees of Safety’
  • 1st Prize – Intermediate Category – ‘Crios Mhadra’
  • Best Stand – ‘Crios Mhadra’ & 3rd Place Irish Award
  • Best Business Plan – ’75 Degrees of Safety’
  • Entrepreneurial Educator of the Year – Mr. Pierce Dargan (Business Teacher)

This success started back in September in our school, when twelve student enterprises formed and went through the various stages of idea generation, prototype development, research, marketing, sales and financial management to be ready for display at our Schools Annual Enterprise Final, on the day of the Christmas holidays. From this exhibition, the three groups that entered County Final were selected.

‘Eary Fix’ and ‘Crios Mhadra’ as Category winners now head to Croke Park on Friday May 3rd to represent Kerry at the National Final. Presentation Castleisland are the current All-Ireland Enterprise Champions in Junior Category and now they return to defend their title.
