Cait O’Mahony, Ellen Dennehy and Siobhan Brosnan are three TY Students from Presentation Secondary school attended competed in the BT Young Scientist competition in the RDS, Dublin in January. The students worked hard on their project ‘An Examination of Racist Attitudes among Young People in Ireland’.
Presentation Secondary School students were chosen as one of the 550 projects that were on display at BT Young Scientist from the 9th – 12th of January. While carrying out their project, these students surveyed a wide group of teenagers of different ages from across the country. By doing this, students have found what demographics and age groups show the highest levels of racist attitudes.
Cait, Ellen and Siobhan decided to do this project because they believe it could make a difference in society and could help prevent racism. They also wanted to raise awareness of racism among young people. While the students did not receive an award at the BT Young Scientist Competition, their hard work and dedication to the project did not go unnoticed by the judges. They represented their school well and did themselves and their school proud.
