This week at Presentation Secondary School, Castleisland, we are proudly acknowledging and celebrating two remarkable women whose lives and legacies continue to inspire our school community: Sister Mary Lucey and St. Brigid.
On Wednesday, our 6th year students had the privilege of welcoming Sister Mary Lucey into their religion classes. Sister Mary spoke warmly and passionately about her life and incredible work in Zambia, sharing powerful stories of faith, service and community. Her words truly resonated with the students, inspiring them through her kindness, dedication and deep sense of purpose. She also brought along beautiful crafts made by women in Zambia, giving students a meaningful insight into their creativity and culture. Her fun-loving and engaging nature made the visit especially memorable, and there was a real sense of admiration and connection in the room. As Sister Mary is currently living in the convent next to our school, we are delighted and hopeful that this visit will be the first of many.
Today, our school also came together to celebrate the legacy of St. Brigid, one of Ireland’s most remarkable women. Our 1st year students kindly brought in rushes to share, and the school was filled with excitement as St. Brigid’s crosses were made. In a lovely moment of collaboration, our 5th year international students learned how to make the crosses with guidance from our Irish students. This shared experience was not only fun and engaging but also a meaningful way to learn about St. Brigid’s life, values and lasting influence. Check out our Instagram stories for some more pictures from today.
It has been a joyful and inspiring week in our school — one that highlights the power of women, faith, culture and community, and reminds us how learning can come alive through shared stories and experiences.
