Student Supports

At Presentation Castleisland, the wellbeing of every student is at the heart of what we do. Support is provided on a continuum, so that every student is looked after day-to-day, with more focused help available for those who need it.

Support for All

  • A Year Head and Class Tutor for every class group
  • Guidance and SPHE classes
  • Our Wellbeing Padlet, with a different focus each day — mindfulness, wellbeing tips, study skills, and feel-good content for Friday
  • Our Study Skills page, with guidance on planning, revision, and exam preparation
  • Assemblies, retreats, and theme weeks (e.g. Wellbeing Week, Safer Internet Week, Colours Day)
  • Whole-school initiatives, including:
    • The SHONA project to develop confidence, celebrate individuality, and support one another.
    • FUSE Anti-Bullying and Online Safety Programme
    • Stand Up Awareness Week to promote inclusion and respect for all in our school community.
  • Peer mentoring — 4th Years supporting incoming 1st Years
  • An open-door policy across the Guidance Team, Year Heads, and school management
  • Our Anti-Bullying Policy, setting out how concerns are raised and addressed
  • Career Guidance meetings for fifth and sixth years

Support for Some

  • One-to-one Guidance and Career appointments
  • The Wellbeing Room and Sensory Room, dedicated spaces for students who need time out during the day
  • Small-group support, study skills, and stress-management workshops
  • The Road to Resilience programme (3rd Year)
  • SEN supports – early assessment for incoming 1st Years, and support with DARE (Disability Access Route to Education) and Reasonable
  • Accommodations in the State Examinations (RACE)

  • Access and financial support – guidance on HEAR (Higher Education Access Route) and SUSI grants
  • English as an Additional Language (EAL) provision
  • International & visiting students – a dedicated induction evening and representation on our Student Council

Support for a Few

  • Our Student Support Team meets regularly to coordinate support for students with more complex needs, working closely with our SEN Coordinator
  • Where needed, we work with outside agencies including NEPS, CAMHS, Tusla, Jigsaw Kerry, Kerry Diocesan Youth Service, and Bodywhys

Who to talk to

If you’re worried about yourself, a friend or your daughter, start with the Year Head or Class Tutor. They’ll involve a member of the Student Support Team if more support is needed.
