Presentation Castleisland would like to congratulate current TY student Saoirse Collins on her recent literary award. Saoirse received the award for her presentation on Mary Elmes, the Irish humanitarian from Cork who helped save Jewish children during the Holocaust. During World War II, Mary Elmes worked with refugees families in France and is remembered for secretly helping children escape Nazi deportation camps, risking her own safety to do so. She later became the first Irish person to be recognised as ‘Righteous Among The Nations’ by Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust memorial authority. Well done Saoirse – we are all very proud of you!
