On Friday 6th November, our Junior Camogie team played their second group game of the Junior Kerry Camogie Shield League at a very sunny Desmond’s GAA pitch.
Following a great round one victory over Presentation Listowel before Halloween, our Camogie team now faced a formidable task against a camogie stronghold in Causeway Comprehensive.
Our team narrowly lost out in the final of this competition last year to Causeway and until Friday have never came out on the right side of a school game versus Causeway.
Friday 6th November ended this trend, in a super back-and-forth battle, that was level heading into the final minute of the game.
Our team had a slow start, with Causeway scoring three early goals and a point, leaving us 10 points behind early on. However, our girls finished the first half strong, clawing the lead back to a single point at the break, with a scoring spree of 1-6 without reply.
The second half was a much tighter affair, with the lead changing hands numerous times.
As the final minute approached, the sides were level and the ball broke to Loren Caldwell, who took on numerous defenders and rattled the back of the Causeway net to put us up three points. A nervy last minute was had but our girls held strong to take a historic victory for our school. Final score 3-9 to 4-3.
With two wins from two we top the group as we head into our final game in the coming weeks v Mercy Mounthawk.
Well done to the entire squad, led by Captain Seana Walsh.
Thanks as always to Anne Walsh for her support, guidance and drive.
Camogie is certainly going from strength to strength in Pres Castleisland.
