The 5 Pillars of Presentation Secondary School Castleisland express what makes our school unique and what day-to-day life is like at our school. The Pillars demonstrate our school culture, both the visible and invisible – from our assumptions, attitudes and beliefs to our actions, behaviours and interactions.
The 5 Pillars are as follows:
Our school is in the heart of Castleisland and the local community plays a vital role in our school life. As the foundation of voluntary secondary schools is charity, we engage and support local charities such as St. Vincent de Paul, Kerry Mental Health Association and Jigsaw Kerry. Our students volunteer in various projects with the Castleisland Tidy Towns Committee. In April 2023, we engaged the entire community in a performing arts event, ‘A Night at the OsKaR’s’, in which 800 people from Castleisland attended the premiere of seven famous movies, comprising a cast of over sixty members. In December 2023, we will stage a community involvement Pantomime ‘Cinderella into the Woods’ in our school hall. In October 2024, ‘A Night at the OsKaR’s’ returns for a second time.
We are fortunate to have our own sports hall, outdoor basketball court and front yard, in which we can celebrate whole school events. Annually we celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge with a whole school Siege of Ennis in our front yard. On World Book Day and on the day of the holidays for Halloween, the entire school goes to the school hall for a fancy dress party. Staff and students always attend school sporting occasions to support our teams.
Staff and students are continuously encouraged to develop a growth mindset. A growth mindset represents a positive outlook on life where students take responsibility for and ownership of their learning, where there is no limit to what you they learn and where there are two outcomes – success or learning.
We are a tight knit community in Presentation Castleisland and we do everything we can to ensure every student and staff member is included. We have an extensive range of before and after school activities, along with our lunchtime clubs, meaning there is something for everyone. Students have the full support of our mentoring programme, student support team, Year Heads and class tutor.
Respect and kindness are at the heart of our daily interactions. We aspire that each student who comes through our door each day experiences both. We aim that all our students are happy and enjoy coming to school because when students are happy, they are more conducive to learning.
