Today students presented their SciFest projects to Mr Stephan Moynihan and SciFest judge
Hillary Lynch, who commended the students on the exceptionally high standard of work,
creativity, and presentation skills on display.
Several awards were presented on the day in recognition of the students’ achievements. The
SciFest Award was presented to Laia Sabelli, Claudia Cuenca, and Noa Marino for their project
Human Reaction Time.
The SciFest 20th Anniversary Award was awarded to Violeta Alvarez Serrat, Maria Victoria Pereira
Galdino, and Luna Stoek for their project How Muscle Affects Athletic Performance.
The Keenova STEM Excellence Award was presented to Saoirse Collins, Éabhha Harkin, and Laura Klein for The Effects of Blue Light.
Leah Burke and Emily Heffernan were awarded both the Runner-Up prize and the Student Choice
Award for their project Does Music Improve Sports Performance?
First place overall was awarded to Jessie O’Keeffe, Mairead Allman, and Alana Kelliher for their
project Effect of Background Noise on Memory Recall.
The journey doesn’t end there. On May 6th, the students will travel to MTU Tralee to compete at a
regional level, presenting their projects to another panel of judges. With many prizes to be won,
there is great excitement and anticipation among all involved. Best of Luck to all involved.
