Yesterday was a fantastic day for our Junior Basketballers, beating Rathmore in the semi final of the South West League. Taking place in the Community Centre, our girls started strong. With Amelie Kerin and Erin O’Connor dominant, we went in after the first quarter with a 15-12 lead. Our opponents managed to quickly turn it around in the second quarter however, and we trailed by 3 going in at half time. The third quarter was highly competitive, and though we won it 11-9, we were still down by one going into the final period. It was from this point forward that we showed true character and skill. Big time players show up when they’re needed most, and our girls did just that. With the deadly combination of Amelie, Erin and Lauren Coffey on offence, as well as Deirdre Moynihan and Clodagh O’ Sullivan’s tireless work defensively, we won the final quarter 11-4. The final score read 39-33, ensuring us a place in tomorrow’s South West League final in Ballybunion. With this win, we have also been ensured a place in the All-Ireland Series, with 15 other teams across the country. The show goes on for this brilliant bunch of players. Pres Abú!
