We love to Relove fashion at Pres Castlisland!!

May 26, 2025

In September 2024, Kerry County Council announced the Relove Fashion project, in order for Kerry schools to participate in this national competition. The task was to design a sustainable wearable outfit from materials no longer used. Brigh Harkin and Abigail Walsh Kelleher both worked hard on creating their amazing outfits, ticking the box for sustainability, wearability and of course creativity. They had been part of the Upcycling lunch time club already, but this gave them a new and exciting focus to work on. Brígh went on to win the Southern Region prize and then to Dublin on the 30th of April to sweep 1st prize in the national final out of almost 50 entries!  The judges were extremely impressed with Brígh`s creativity but the wearability is what appears to have won it for her in the end.  She was inspired by Harley Quinn, a character in Batman who often wears alternating colour sections.  After going through her Dad`s unwanted shirts, she came up with her outfit.  As the base is navy, she felt it needed a little colour, so after a rummage through the unused button box, she created a beautiful colourful bouquet.

Abigail picked up a lovely pre-loved jacket in a local charity shop and decided to tailor it to fit her shape. She cut up an old lace cardigan to create the lace frills for the cuffs and jacket and flowers for the pockets. Another beautiful wearable outfit given a new life by Abilagil`s creativity and passion.

Breda Moriarty (Environmental Awareness Officer) from the Kerry County Council called to meet Brígh and Abigail last week and see for herself the amazing outfits they created.
She was very impressed and encouraged them to continue in the future. We at Pres Castleisland are extremely proud of both students who represented our school and have a great future in fashion and sustainability ahead of them.
