Stand Up Awareness Week will take place in our school this week from November 4-8, 2024. Belong To’s Stand Up Awareness Week is a time for post-primary schools, youth services and Youthreach centres throughout all of Ireland to come together and take a stand against homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying.
This week is an opportunity again for us to take steps to make spaces safe and supportive for LGBTQ+ young people in our school community. It is heartbreaking that one in five young LGBTQ+ people face bullying and that 76% of LGBTQ+ students feel unsafe at school. Together we are creating an environment in our school where LGBTQ+ young people feel safe, equal and valued.
On Thursday of this week we will celebrate in style with a Colours Carnival in St. John’s Hall. This year our 2nd years are running the event as part of their SPHE CBA action project. For the week ahead in our SPHE classes students will learn more about the LGBTQ+ community and the importance of inclusion, kindness and respect being shown to everyone.
We are asking parents to also get involved this week and help us in achieving our Quality Mark Status for the school with Belong To by filling out the following brief survey. This would be a great help for us in understanding what parents feel we need to do in order to help the LGBTQ+ community. Please click on the link below to complete;
