Launch of Basketball Academy with Prestigious Superstars

On Thursday 20th November, we launched our exciting new Basketball Academy in the presence of basketball royalty, including the Kingdom’s very own Kieran ‘Star’ Donaghy, who was joined by three professional international basketballers currently applying their trade with Tralee Warriors. The basketball stars included:
Jordan Perkins – USA
Irshaad Hunte – Canada
Daniel Jokubaitis – Germany
All four players engaged our school basketballers, along with girls from a host of local primary schools, in a one-hour basketball masterclass, that left everyone feeling like they’re going to be the next Michael Jordan or Lebron James.
The evening was full of drills, skills and high-level fun.
The event officially launched the schools new Basketball Academy which will be commencing next September 2026 for all students in our school.
The Academy will bring the school’s long and illustrious 100 year history, tradition and basketball culture into a very bright future.
The Academy will comprise of the following elements and much more:
High-level internal school coach
Coaching sessions with Irish & International players
Weekend training camps across Ireland
Weekly sessions with a particular focus
Training rituals and expectations
Specific game strategies
Warm up structure
Pres Academy gear
6 year progression plan (1st to 6th Year)
Academy players will have the opportunity to attend a professional NBA basketball game in the United States every two years, commencing in the Spring of 2027.
Exciting times ahead for our school, which is leading and most successful post-primary secondary school for girls basketball in the country.
