TY Festive Trip To Killarney

December 9, 2025

Our Transition Year students enjoyed a fantastic festive day out in Killarney today, filled with food, fun, and learning. We began our morning at Killarney Racecourse Café, where students tucked into a delicious pancake and waffle festive breakfast while taking in the stormy views of the racecourse. It was the perfect start to a very enjoyable day.

Next, we made our way to Killarney on Ice for an energetic ice-skating session. Laughter, teamwork, and plenty of impressive skating filled the rink. A huge thank you to Eileen and her wonderful team for providing such a memorable experience for our group.

Our final stop was Muckross Ice Cream, Farm and Santa Experience, run by local dairy farmer John Fleming. John welcomed the students for an engaging and informative talk on enterprise, dairy farming, product development, and the value of supporting local businesses. Students learned how his award-winning ice cream enterprise developed from his family dairy farm and what it takes to bring a local product to market.

To the delight of everyone, John also provided a range of yoghurt and ice-cream tasters, followed by an opportunity to toast marshmallows and make s’mores – a highlight for many! A sincere thank you to John for his time, generosity, and insightful talk.
