This week, Transition Year students had the exciting opportunity to take part in an Introduction to Barista Training course, led by the knowledgeable and enthusiastic instructor Carmel Hurley.
Over the course of the session, students were introduced to the art and science behind crafting the perfect cup of coffee. From understanding coffee beans and grind sizes to mastering the use of professional espresso machines, the group gained valuable hands-on experience in a real-world skill.
With great enthusiasm, students tackled a range of popular coffee styles – including lattes, cappuccinos, and americanos – all with impressive confidence and flair. Under Carmel’s expert guidance, they learned how to steam milk to the perfect texture, pour with precision, and present their drinks to a high standard.
The workshop not only developed practical skills but also gave students an insight into the hospitality industry, encouraging teamwork, attention to detail, and customer service awareness.
A hugely enjoyable and engaging experience for all involved – who knows, we may have some future baristas in the making!
