Today marked the opening round of the Minor and Junior South West Basketball Leagues. Our opponents on the day were of course our next door neighbours, Castleisland Community College.
Our minors got the action under way, and ended the first quarter with a 16-6 lead after a dominant effort. The Community College fought back gallantly, however we weathered the storm and finished the game 34-28 winners. There were a number of standout performances on the day, including Katelyn Brosnan, Bríd Curtin, Laura McShane, Evelyn McEligott and Caitlin Griffin.
Our juniors carried on where the minors left off, putting in a very dominant first half. The half time score read 21-8. Similar to the first game of the day, our neighbours really put it up to us in the second half and made us work hard for the victory. The game finished 31-20. Standout performers on the day were Amelie Kerin, Erin O’Conner, Lauren Coffey and Mairéad Walsh.
It proved to be a great start to the year for these two fantastic groups of players and we are all eagerly awaiting the next round of games.
