A huge congratulations to all the first year students who presented their mini-businesses before Christmas as part of the Student Enterprise programme. Over the past few months, students have been working very hard on developing mini businesses, with innovative ideas for new products and services. Items on display at the final included a new locker shelving unit, a colourfully designed board to hang up odd socks, a memory book to help people with dementia to remember loved ones and times past, a pack to store art supplies, a furniture piece to keep together important items (e.g. keys, glasses, calendar, notes) and gloves with removable finger tops to allow tying of shoe laces.
Well done to Pocket Pal, who won the school competition and will progress to the Kerry County Final on 14th March in the MTU. The team, made up of Loren Caldwell, Caoimhe Fleming, Ciara O’Donoghue, Eva Burke and Ava Hickey, are making stick on phone pouches for the back of mobile phones to store notes and coins. A niche invention that will be popular among teenagers. Second place in the school final went to Miles, made up of Gwen O’Sullivan and Ellen Casey. The team are designing robust and sturdy stands for bicycles, something better than what is typically attached to most bikes at the moment. Miles will also represent the school in the Kerry County Final in March.
Other prizes on the day were awarded to:
‘Best Endeavour’ – Abigial Walsh Kelleher and Áine O’Sullivan
