Yesterday, our under 16 and 19 basketballers headed for Ennis in the opening round of the South West League. The under 16s got the proceedings under way, and they did not disappoint. They led from start to finish, in what was a dominant display. Everyone played their part in this 49-24 victory. Charlie O’ Keeffe top scored with 14 points, while Erin O’ Connor, Amelie Kerin and Lauren Coffey also added telling contributions. Máire Cullotys defence also proved tenacious, in what was overall a fantastic opening round display for this group of players.
Proving inspired by the under 16’s brilliant performance, our under 19’s arguably raised they bar even higher. It is fair to say they put on an exhibition of basketball. Led by Emma Buckleys ferocious effort and determination early on, they got out to an early 10-0 lead, and even went from strength thereafter. The scoreline in this one ended 72-19 and laid down a real marker for the rest of the competition. Muireann Walsh, Julia Curtin, Clodagh Coffey and Rebecca Reidy provided top class performances on the day, as well as everyone else who took the court. This proved to be a great start to what we hope will be a big season for the these two teams. On to the next!
